　　Introductions

　　以自我介紹開始電話交談： "Hello, this is Peter Jones. 如果你在接電話的時候對方沒有表明他是誰，你可以說："May I ask who's calling, please?"

　　Asking for someone / Making a request

　　如果你打電話給特定的某人的話，那么你得用禮貌的問句來表達意圖，例如"May I speak to Rachel Smith, please?"當你只知道分機號碼卻不知道人名的時候你可以說："Could I have extension number 635?" 但如果打電話是有特定的目的，那最好是這么說："I’m calling to make a reservation."

　　Holding and transferring

　　"Please hold"是電話語言中表示“等一下”的意思。當你需要transferred(轉接)到另一部分機，你常會聽到："Connecting your call..."或者"Please hold, I'll transfer you."。“如果你是在繁忙時段撥打某公司電話時，在接線員將你轉到另一條線之前，你可能會聽到簡短的一句話。"Hello, please hold!"

　　Leaving a message

　　當你打電話的對方不在或不能接聽電話時，那就準備留言吧。你可以使用voicemail(電子錄音系統)或一部answering machine(在磁帶上錄音的一種機器)。如果你正和接線員講話的話，他們會問："Would you like to leave a message?"或者你可以說， "May I leave a message?如果想要對方回電話的話，千萬別忘了留你的電話號碼。這被稱作call back number。

　　Asking the speaker to slow down

　　如果你不確定你能聽懂所有的英語對話，一定要坦誠、直接告訴對方："My English isn't very strong, could you please speak slowly?" 大部分的人會贊許你的誠實并很高興這么做。

　　如果你覺得用英語打電話還有點緊張的話，把要講的事先寫下來將會對你很有幫助。寫出你需要講的內容大綱。你可以使用此提綱事先組織你的語言并且如果在通話過程中有任何疑問的話也能作為借鑒。

　　Remember your manners

　　在通話中使用文明禮貌的語言是非常重要的。在請求別人時，請使用類似的短語， 'Could you'，和'Please' 。并且總是記得以'Thank you'和'Goodbye'結束通話!
