Yufu County was established here some 2,300 years ago during the Zhou Dynasty, making it one of the first counties established in China. In 222 Liu Bei retreated from Yiling ( now Yichang) to Baidicheng, where he renarued Yufu County as Yongan County. In the 32nd year of the Tang Emperor Zhenguans reign (649 A.D.)，the emperor in order to commend Zhuge Liang for his patriotism and loyalty, gave this place its current name¨Fengjie“. Daning River Small Three Gorges
Daning River was called Wizard Water in ancient times. It begins from the Daba Mountains at the junction of Sichuan, Hubei, and Shaanxi, and has a total length of nearly 300 km. It is the first tributary among Three Gorges tributaries. The Daning River has three small gorges along a 60-kilometer stretch running from Wu Hill to Dachang. These gorges are the Longmen, Bawu, and Dicui Gorges. This section of canyon is narrower and steeper than the Three Gorges of Yangtze River. It also boasts unique scenery, such as strangely shaped rocks, clear water, and many beaches. Tourists can hear the sound of boat trackers trumpets here.
Longmen Gorge
The Longmen gorge is only about three kilometers long. The narrow gap between two mountains here makes it seem as if they are facing each other. The cliffs are very steep and the terrain is dangerous than the Kui Gate. To visit the three small gorges, tourists generally travel from wushan Countys Daning river mouth by boat against the current. They go into Longmen Gorge., pass through the Bawu to the Dicui, and then return. On the way you can glimpse peculiar and beautiful scenes before going to the next destination, Xiling Gorge.
Xiling Gorge
Now we are in the beautiful Xiling Gorge. Since the Gezhou Dam and Three Gorges Dam were completed, it has been known for its beautiful mountain and river scenery. Xiling Gorge stretches 76 kilometers, from Xiangxi River in west Zigui County to Nanjinguan, which is located east of Yichang. It is the longest among the Yangtze Rivers Three Gorges. East of Nanjinguan, the Yangtze River suddenly becomes wider, going from 400 to 2,000 meters, and its currents slow considerably.
Xiling Gorge contains three Beaches-Xie, Green, and Kongling Beach-and four gorges-Lantern Shadow, Cattle, Buffalo and Horses Lung, and War Book and Sword Gorge. The Gorge contains small gorges, and the beach contains small beaches. With the completion of the Gezhou Dam Project, the water level rose, causing the rapid water and beaches to disappear. But today we can still appreciate the mighty and beautiful scenery of Three Gorges Project and Xiling Gorge on both sides.
Nanjinguan
This is Nanjinguan, the starting point of the Yangtze River Three Gorges, the dividing line between upper reaches of the Yangtze River. There is a famous scenic spot gorge at the mouth of the Xiling which is national level scenic area and the provincial level tourist resort. Its main attractions are the Leizu Temple, Peach Blossom Village, White Horse and Three Swimming Caves, the Stream to Prison, Dragon Fountain Cave, Immortal River and Wuzhou Leisure Park. When passing through Nanjinguan, the width of the river suddenly narrows from more than 2,000 to about 300 meters.
The Lantern Shadow Gorge
After cruising about 10 kilometers west from Nanjinguan, we arrive at the Lantern Shadow Gorge. The Lantern Shadow Gorge is also known as the Moon Gorge. It is not long, but the landscape is remarkable. The gorge wall looks luminous, pleasant, and it is as pure as carefully polished gems. If you pass by this place in the evening, the moonlit western hill creates a special kind of scenery , too beautiful to express in words. Hence, the name “Moon Gorge”。 The Lantern Shadow Gorge is famous for its Horse Tooth Mountain in the south bank. It has four bizarre rocks, which look like pictures of the main characters in the early Chinese literary classic, Journey to the West. One rock is the Sun wukong-the monkey, with one hand in front of his forehead to shade light; another rock, resembling a man touching his belly is Zhu Bajie-the pig; The other two rocks represent respectively Sha Wujing-the monk who is carrying the load, and Tang Sanzang-the master who folds his palms. All four are vivid, lifelike and wonderful. And in the setting sun, when viewed from a distance, the gorge really resembles a shadow play game the locals call the Lantern Shadow game. Hence, its name, Lantern Shadow Gorge.
Zhongbao Island-The Three Gorges Dam Site
when we pass Xiling Yangtze River Bridge by ship, we arrive at the Three Gorges dam site. Initially rectangular in shape, the island became Zhongbao Island and was personally selected the Three Gorges Dam site by Zhou Enlai. Zhongbao Island is a magical island, and it has never been inundated by the Yangtze Rivers great floods. The
flood in 1870 submerged Huangling Temple whose position is. even higher than Zhongbao Island, but Zhongbao Island was not submerged. No convincing scientific explanation currently exists for this strange mystery. Now Zhongbao Island has disappeared for the construction of the Three Gorges Project and on this site stands the magnificent Three Gorges Dam. Kongling Gorge. After we pass through the Three Gorges Dam and then cruise another 10 kilometers west, our ship will enter a precipitous gorge that is approximately 2.5 kilometers long. This is the famous Kongling Gorge, which is renowned for its sheer cliffs. It is also known as the Air-cooling Gorge and originally had a reef rising above the water level, with the words, “come to me,” inscribed on it. In 1900 a foreign vessel entered the gorge and its captain could not read the sign .and also ignored his crews warnings. As a result, his ship sank on this reef. After the founding of New China and several changes in the river channel, the reef was blown up. The Gezhou Dams completion has caused the water level to rise, so the beach no longer poses any danger, Tourists can get here safely by ship, but it is not as exciting as before.
The Home of Famous Figures along the Fragrant Brook
After passing through Xiling Gorge, we come to Fragrant Brook and a wide valley. Fragrant Brook is full of water. Two well-known historical figures hail from here, one is the great patriotic poet Qu Yuan, and the other is the Han Dynasty heroine, Wang Zhaojun. A legend exists about the latter and goes like this. One day Zhaojun was washing at the stream and intentionally scattered a necklace of pearls in the river. Because of this, the stream became clear, and water smells fragrant, so it is called Fragrant Brook, Fragrant Brook is like a stream of ribbon, which serves as a bridge to magical forests of Shennongjia. With the completion of the Three Gorges Project, tourist can directly reach Zhaojun village by ship and may then visit the poet Qu Yuans hometown of Lepingli.
Three Gorges Project
Finally, let me introduce the famous Three Gorges Project. We Chinese people all feel proud of this. The construction of the Three Gorges Project was not a smooth sailing. As early as in 1919, the great revolutionary forerunner Mr. Sun Yat-sen had brought forward the plan for construction of the Three Gorges Project. However it was not until 1994, nearly 80 years after this idea was first proposed that construction work on it began.

游客朋友們，我們現在來到了大溪文化遺址，它位于瞿塘峽東口長江南岸與大溪河交匯處，距奉節縣城15千米。國家文物部門于1958年、1975年和1976年進行過三次發掘，發掘面積達570平方米，清理墓葬208座，出土珍貴文物1200多件，該文化遺址距今約五六千年，它對于研究新石器時代長江上游地帶的社會、經濟發展提供了極珍貴的史料。
巫峽

西陵峽
現在我們到了風光綺麗的西陵峽。兩壩建成后，又以山靈水秀著稱。西陵峽西起秭歸縣香溪河口，東至宜昌市南津關，全長76千米，是長江三峽中最長的峽谷。長江東出南津關后，江面驟然展寬，由400米增至米左右，流速由急變緩。西陵峽中有三灘(泄灘、青灘、崆嶺灘)、四峽(燈影峽、黃牛峽、牛肝馬肺峽和兵書寶劍峽)，峽中有峽，灘中有灘，大灘含小灘，灘多水急。隨著葛洲壩工程的建成，西陵峽中灘多水急的奇觀不復存在了。今天我們沿途可欣賞博大恢弘的三峽工程及西陵峽兩岸的美妙景色。
南津關
這就是南津關，長江三峽的起始點，長江上游的分界線。這里有著名的西陵峽口風景區，是國家級風景名勝區，省級旅游度假區。主要景點有嫘祖廟、桃花村、白馬洞、三游洞、下牢溪、龍泉洞、仙人溪和五洲休閑樂園等景點。穿過南津關后，江面由2000多米驟然左右變窄到300米，展現在你眼前的便是色彩斑斕、氣象萬千的壯麗畫卷。
巫山古城
巫山古城位于巫峽大寧河口上，古城歷史悠久。早在秦漢時，巫山稱巫縣，隋朝始用今名。據說在遠古堯舜時，有一御醫巫死于此，因而得名巫山。又有一說法：巫山對岸南陵山形如巫字而得名。最為特別的是，巫山縣城中的大小街道均用巫山十二峰的名字命名。巫山古城景色美麗，大家可以盡情欣賞一下。
大寧河小三峽
大寧河古稱巫水，發源于川，鄂、陜交界的大巴山南麓，全長近300千米，是三峽中的.第一支流。大寧河小三峽從巫山至大昌，長約60千米，由龍門峽、巴霧峽、滴翠峽組成。這一段峽谷比長江三峽更為狹窄陡峭，石怪、水清、灘多和纖夫號子成了大寧河的獨特風光。
燈影峽
過南津關西行約10千米，就到了燈影峽。燈影峽又名明月峽，峽雖不長，但景致不凡。峽壁明凈可人，純無雜色，如天工細心打磨而出。若晚間過此，月懸西山，月光之下形成的奇特景色難以言喻，這就是“明月峽”的由來。燈影峽得以以形取景，南岸的馬牙山上有四塊奇石，酷似《西游記》唐僧師徒四人西天取經高興歸來的生動形象：手搭涼篷的孫悟空;捧著肚皮、一步三晃的豬八戒;肩挑重擔的沙和尚;合掌緩行的唐僧，形象逼真、惟妙帷肖，栩栩如生，妙不可言。每當夕霞晚照，從峽中遠望，極似皮影戲(當地人叫燈影戲)，故名燈影峽。
中堡島――三峽大壩壩址
船過西陵長江大橋，就到了三峽大壩壩址。這里原來是個長方形的小島，稱為中堡島，是周恩來總理親自選定的大壩壩址。中堡島是個神奇的島，歷史上不論發生多大的洪水，都淹不了這個小島。1870年的特大洪水淹了位置比中堡島高得多的黃陵廟，卻沒能淹沒中堡島，這里的奧秘，至今還沒有令人信服的科學解釋。現在中堡島為了三峽工程的建設從地球上消失了。現在展現在大家面前的是雄偉壯麗的三峽大壩。
崆嶺峽
船駛過三峽大壩后，再西行約10千米，便進入了一個險峻的峽谷之中，這就是三峽中著名的崆嶺峽。崆嶺峽峭壁聳立。此峽又稱空冷峽，全長約2.5千米。峽中原有一塊凸出水面的礁石，上刻三個大字“對我來”。19，有一艘外國輪船開進峽江，船長不知其中奧妙，又不聽峽江水手告誡，結果被礁石撞沉。新中國成立后，經過多次航道整治，炸掉了這塊礁石。葛洲壩建成后，水位抬高，險灘也不復存在。航船到這里安然無恙，只是少了一處夠刺激的景觀。
香溪名人故里
船行出西陵峽不久就到了香溪寬谷。在這綠水悠悠的香溪之濱，歷史上曾出現過兩位著名人物：一位是偉大的愛國詩人屈原，一位是漢代的王昭君。傳說有一天，昭君在溪邊洗臉，無意中把頸上項鏈的珍珠散落溪中，從此溪水清澈，水中含香，故名香溪。香溪似一條流香溢美的彩帶，架起了一座通向充滿神奇的神農架原始森林的橋梁。三峽工程蓄水后，游船可從長江直到昭君村，中途也可達到屈原故里――樂平里。

最后，讓我為大家介紹一下舉世矚目的三峽工程。我們每個中國人都會為三峽工程感到驕傲和自豪，然而工程的建設并不是一帆風順的。早在19，偉大的革命先驅孫中山先生就提出了建設三峽工程的構想，到1994年才破土動工，距構想有近80年的時間。
三峽工程共分為三期，嚴格說是四期，1992年到1994年為籌建期，修筑了28千米的三峽壩區專用公路。第一期是從1994年到，以大江截流為標志，相信大江截流時的壯觀場面大家已經從電視上看過。第二期是從19到，以第一臺發電機組安裝完成為標志，水位將抬升到135米。第三期工程從20到，以二十六臺機組全部發電，大壩建成為標志，水位抬升到175米。
三峽工程是目前世界上最大的水利工程，它是綜合治理長江中下游地區防洪問題的關鍵，工程還有發電、航運、灌溉和發展庫區經濟等多項綜合效益，對我國發展社會主義現代化建設及提高我國的綜合國力起著重要的作用。
三峽大壩建成后全長1983米，壩高為185米，最高運行水位175米，總蓄水量393億立方米，總裝機容量1820千瓦，年發電雖847億度，相當于十座廣東大亞灣核電站。三峽大壩建成后，我國每年每人將可以增加用電70度。
三峽工程建成蓄水后，峽外的主要景點白帝城、張飛廟、石寶寨、名山鬼城;峽內的古棧道、屈原祠、昭君故里、大寧河小三峽等多處景點，有的將因水位升高而部分或全部被永久淹沒，有的將整體搬遷新址重建。

At first I’ll have a brief introduction of Yangtze River, the Yangtze River, the biggest river in China, the third longest in the World, starts with the Tuotuo River at the Roof of the World -Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, takes in countless rivers, and flows eastward across the interior of China. With an overall length of more than 6,300 kilometers, the Yangtze River, next only to the Amazon and the Nile, is the third biggest river in the world and is a cradle that breeds the ancient civilization of the Chinese nation.
When the Yangtze River reaches the eastern Sichuan Basin in southwest China, it cuts through the Wushan Mountain. Here the river course suddenly narrows and the waters become turbulent. Sheer cliffs and steep mountains rise on either side, creating one of natures most fantastic sights. The Three Gorges---Qutang, wuxia and xiling----start just after Fengjie and end near Yichang, stretch about 200 kilometers. The Gorges vary from 300metres at their widest to less than 100 meters at their narrowest.
Qutang Gorge is the smallest and shortest Gorge, but grandest of the three. The Yangtze River, mighty and rapid here is suddenly contained like "a thousand seas poured into one cup", as the Song Dynasty poet SU Tungpo described the spectacle. High on the both bank, at a place called Bellows Gorge, are a series of crevices. This area is said to have been the home of an ancient tribe whose custom was to place the coffins of their crevices, some containing bronze swords, armour and other artifacts, but the coffins are believed to date back as far as the Warring States Period (475bc----221BC)
Wu Gorge extends 40 kilometers along which the river snakes between based strange-shaped mountain peaks, each of which has a reputation based on a beautiful legend. The story of the "12 Peaks of Wushan goes like this: 12 nymphs once descended to enjoy themselves in the secular world. Finding how perilous Wushan Gorge was, they decided to stay there to protect ships. As time went by, they transformed themselves into 12 peaks. Down stream from the zigzagging Wuxia Gorge is Xiling Gorge which stretches 78 kilometers eastward and the cliffs on either side rise to just over 900 meters. Xiling Gorge is awesome with its dangerous rapids, shoals, reefs, sharp turns, billowy whirlpools. The water at one point is so turbulent that it seems to be boiling during the flood season. Xiling Gorge in the east consists of several small gorges. On the top of another is a rock that looks like a sword. On the crag of the north bank are two pieces of brown rock, which are named Bulls Liver and Horse Lung, whose shape they take. Next does the Lantern Shadow Gorge, which has four rocks, resemble Monk Xuan Zang and his three disciples---Monkey, Piggy and Sandy in the classic Chinese adventures of the four on their way to India to obtain Buddhist scriptures.
Around the last bend of Xiling Gorge stretches a vast plain. The river suddenly becomes wide here. Travelers on the Yangtze cruise may also visit many sites of historical and scenic interest along the river banks including the ruined of baidi Town and Precious Stone Village.
Everyone knows that the Yangtze Gorges are changing since the well-known Three Gorges Dam Project is being built at Sabdouping, Yichang, Hubei Province. The dam is 181 meters in height. Its construction investment comes up to 203.9 billion rmb, equals to 24.65 billion U.S. dollars. The installed power generation capacity is expected to be 18.2 million kilo watts. With the dam built, the flood in the Yangtze River valley will be controlled, navigation improved besides the economic benefits. Tourism will be little affected.
